Hey! Axel here with The Arcane Citizen’s new segment: Poetic Justice!
I’m not very good at introductions, but I’ll tell you a little about myself. I’m a junior vampire at AOA, a member of the De Ardo Coven (yes, I’m aware that it’s a witch coven and not a vampire coven, piss off), a photographer for the Journalism Club, and a member of the Poetry Club. That last one may not be important, but it’s the driving force behind this new segment.
I find that I convey my thoughts and feelings best when I write them down, and my latest medium has been poetry. Historically speaking, poetry is a creative outlet used by many and has therapeutic connotations. It’s not just a way to confess to your crush–though you could if you wanted to.
“But Ax, what’s that have to do with this new seg–?” Shut up. I’m getting to it.
Since poetry has helped me come out of my shell a bit, I figured it could do the same for others. Maybe you’re a budding writer with creative flair, or you have complicated feelings that you can’t seem to verbalize. Sometimes jotting down your thoughts can help you sift through the chaos in your mind. So, I decided to start this segment where I share poetry submissions. Some are mine, some are my partner’s and friends, and some may belong to members of the Poetry Club… But you could see your poem here, too, if you’d like. Whether you’re a student, a member of AOA’s faculty, or just a random passerby scrolling through the poetry tag: if you can see this, you can submit your poetry and have your name and writing out there. Just know that submissions are considered guest posts, and we’ll link back to your website and/or socials if you wish.
I’ll take the initiative and share one of my poems. I’m not that great, so don’t be too harsh.
In a room bathed in moonlight
In a world void of sunlight
In a life stalking by twilight
You found me
In a study warmed by firelightIn an alley led by torchlight
Behind a lush curtain of starlight
I found you
Bright-eyed and toweringYour words are empowering
Your presence makes me cower in
The darkness I know
Insignificant and smallWith a drunken southern drawl
Deeper still I fall
To your Roseland graces
Secret whispers and talking gesturesExcited talks of future ventures
Skywatching and golden vespers
I want it all with you

And deeper still I fall
Thanks for getting this far. Let’s serve the world some poetic justice next week, shall we? Until then, make sure you like this post, leave a comment with your thoughts (which I will totally appreciate and not wipe my ass with), share this post with your friends, and follow The Arcane Citizen for more entertainment. I might share poetry weekly, but this site updates daily with new content!
See you next time, Citizens. Ax out!

According to D.E.A.D., Haunters that are biologically under the universal age of majority can qualify for legal emancipation if they’ve passed their blood trial (which takes an average of 150 years) and completed secondary education. Once those conditions have been met, D.E.A.D. will change all of their paperwork to age up the Haunter appropriately–in other words, if they don’t look older than 20, their license will say they’re 20.

actually, there’s a romeo and juliet clause that let’s haunters who already graduated enter relationships with haunters still in school. both just need to have finished their blood trials, and you can’t attend school until you’ve met that requirement, so… 😏
